Informational Meeting for Incoming Sixth Grade Students - June 8th

Dear incoming sixth grade parent(s)/guardian(s) and students,

As you look ahead towards middle school, I know that there is probably much anticipation and excitement as well as some anxiety.  You and your child are invited to become a part of our “band family” at Clark-Shaw.  I hope that this letter will answer many of your questions concerning band.

First, the band is made up of students just like you.  The basic instruments that most begin to play are flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, electric bass and snare/bells.  Usually most new students have never played an instrument before and cannot read music, so don’t worry about that.  You do not need any experience to be a part of the sixth grade band.  I teach you everything from the very beginning.  Band is open to all.  You just need to have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and practice.

Band is a positive organization where students can make many friends, learn organizational skills, teamwork and a sense of belonging to a quality group of people.  This year, over 200 students participated in the band.  We have a great booster club that is very supportive of our young people.

If you are interested in participating in our outstanding band program next year, you and your child need to come to the band room on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 8:30-11:00a.m.  Students will have the opportunity to try different mouthpieces and instruments.  Check a time and return this form as soon as possible, but no later than June 2.
