In 2006 I recieved my BS in Science from the University of South Alabama in Biology and a minor in Geology.

In 2009 I recieved a NOYCE Scholarship from USA on behalf of the National Science Foundation.

In 2011 I graduated with a Masters in General Education Science allowing me to teach 6-12th grade.

Currently I am in in the process of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher.

In 2010 I began my teaching career at Semmes Middle School as a 7th grade Life Science educator. Still at Semmes, three years later, I changed subjects to 8th grade Physical Science and began teaching a Forensics elective.

2017-18 Marks my 7th year teaching and my first year at Clark Shaw Magnet.

My name is Tami May. I am a life-long learner and a lover of science! My personal focus is biology, entomology and plants. I greatly enjoy the outdoors! Often you will find my family and I at the beach, camping, hiking, fishing (on a boat, shore or kayak!) and doing yard work. My husband of 20 years and I took up scuba diving a few years ago. We became Nitrox certified this past summer after our trip to Grand Cayman and before our 2nd trip to Bonaire.

We have several family pets including our yellow bellied slider, Timmy, who leaves our pond and comes into the classroom October through March (not that turtles can't endure Alabama winters but that Timmy doesn't realize he is a turtle...).

In 2017, I had the honor of becoming the Teacher of Year at my school and then the District Secondary Education Teacher of the Year. Through first my love of learning, then the love of science and finally by passing this along to my wonderful students, I was recognized for my hard work that wouldn't be possible without my amazing teaching team!

It is also an honor to teach your child.

I have two school aged children of my own in the magnet program. I value communication, cooperation and the education of our kids from BOTH sides of the classroom.

I look forward to working with you this year!

Tami May
