Bio

            Madame Maniatis, who is a native of Amphissa, Greece, came to the United States as a child.  She graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in French and History from the University of South Alabama.  As an undergraduate, she was a three time recipient of the History Award, served as President of Phi Alpha Theta History Honorary Society, was voted by the faculty to "Who's Who In America's Colleges and Universities," and was granted a Fulbright Grant her senior year for study in France.

            While in France, Madame Maniatis took post graduate courses at the Univesité d'Aix Marseille and taught English as a foreign language.  She worked for three consecutive years at the International Cannes Film Festival as an interpreter before moving to Nuremberg, Germany to study the German language for an academic year. 

            After returning to the United States, Madame Maniatis attended Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where she also taught for four years.  She was awarded the M.A. in French Language and Literature from Emory University where she has finished all course work for the Ph.D.  While at Emory, Madame Maniatis was involved in theatre productions and received the prestigious "Anna Amari Perry Award" for excellence in French scholarship and teaching.

            Madame Maniatis returned to Mobile and worked for many years at a college preparatory school where she served as Foreign Language Chair and Language Lab Coordinator.  While there, she taught all levels of high school French, including Advanced Placement French Language and Advanced Placement French Literature.  She also taught Introduction to Latin and Spanish I.  Mrs. Maniatis worked for seven years for the ETS in Princeton, New Jersey as a Faculty Consultant, grading the AP French Exam.  In 1995, Madame Maniatis was one of fifteen teachers nationwide to be granted an award by the National Endowment for the Humanities to study theatre in Avignon, France.

            Madame Maniatis is a member of several professional organizations and is actively involved in the local chapter of the "Alliance française," an organization committed to encouraging the study of French language and culture.  She has two children and when she is not working, she likes to travel, read, watch movies, and spend time with family and friends.
