Welcome to Civics-Geography 2017 - 2018

Dear Parents/ Guardian,

Welcome to Clark-Shaw Magnet School for the 2017-2018 school year! I plan for your student to have a successful, fun, and meaningful year in Civics-World Geography. This is a great year for Civics! There will be a Senator Race and a Mayoral Race.

Social Studies is divided into two semesters:

·         Civics: August – December

·         World Geography: January – May

In Civics, your child will learn about the United States government and economy and the importance of becoming an active citizen.

In World Geography, he/she will learn about the land, economy, people, and cultures of various regions around the world.

Ø  Current Events: discussed daily in our classroom all year long. Questions, answers, and classroom notes will be taken on current events as well as the required core curriculum. Students will learn the connection between governments around the world and how events affect our lives.

Every student was given a Welcome Letter to take home to parents, have signed, and return to me. In the letter was information concerning the details of expectations for this course. I will always remind students of major tests and projects due. Homework will begin in September and will consist of work in current events and news gathering.

The monthly syllabus can be found under Assignments. This will help you and the students stay informed as to what we are learning and when major tests and assignments are due.

Please email me with any questions. I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
